Michael Fashingbauer, 72, a lifelong resident of the Lakeland area, passed into eternal life on December 18, 2025. Mike was a Dr. Kate baby, delivered in Tomahawk, on November 15, 1953, to Joseph and Rosalie Fashingbauer from Lac du Flambeau. He grew up on Moss Lake, attended LdF Grade School and Lakeland Union High School. Following graduation, Mike worked as a stone mason for 15 years, then joined his father and brothers in the family construction business before stepping out on his own with his sons, contracting and building for 35 years. In 1979 he married the love of his life, Diane Marie Larsen and was devoted to her for the rest of his life.
When Mike wasn't working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing (especially Canadian wilderness trips), shooting sports, travel and riding his Yamaha motorcycle (especially with his “beautiful wife” on the back)! His favorite enjoyment was spending time with his children and grandchildren, adorning them with fanciful pet names that they delighted in. Beyond all the pastimes in the world, however, Mike would want to be known for his deep and unwavering faith in Christ, his Savior, followed by his love of family: his wife, children, grandchildren and providing for them. Mike modeled himself after his father Joe in his integrity, craftsmanship and simplicity: his love of natural surroundings, of country, of family, and above all, of a good and righteous God.
Mike is survived by his beloved family: his wife Diane, his children Rebecca (David) Eldredge, Luke (Kathryn) Fashingbauer, Jacob (Sarah) Fashingbauer, Michelle (William) Stewart, Rachel Fashingbauer, Joseph Fashingbauer, Christiana (Tyler) Auker, Michael Fashingbauer, Jr., Julia (John) Blank, Paul Fashingbauer, and Jennie Fashingbauer; 14 grandchildren, his brothers Steven (Pam) Fashingbauer and Daniel Fashingbauer, his sister Martha (Mike) Handrick, many nieces and nephews, faithful friends and Diane's siblings, who have honored, supported and loved him through the years.
...the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8
A memorial gathering for Mike was held on Monday, Dec. 22 at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff, followed by a memorial service. A private family burial took place at Minocqua Memorial Cemetery.
