Scott (Scooter) D. Steffes, 62 of Hazelhurst, formerly of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, August 12 after a fight with Glioblastoma at his home surrounded by his family.

Born September 24, 1962, In Naperville, Ill. to David and Marilyn (Miller) Steffes. He grew up in Sharon.

He graduated from Big Foot High School in Walworth, in 1981. He went on to work at Scot Forge, Phil’s Electric Drain and Squires Waterjetting in Clinton, before moving up to the Northwoods that he loved. He worked at County Materials Corp in Hazelhurst. Scooter was an avid Packers fan, loving husband, father, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Scott was united in marriage to Kathy Lacke on April 27, 1996. They shared 29 years together and twin boys Jacob and Luke.

Scott grew up playing baseball in Little League, Pony League, high school and American Legion leagues, and he played fast-pitch softball. Scott was a fantastic pitcher. He was selected to play in County Stadium in 1981 for the Wisconsin American Legion Southern All-Star league, but baseball was on strike. He also played for Utesch Construction from 1982 to 1986. The team won first place in fast pitch in Class C in 1985 and second place in Class B in 1986.

Survived by his wife, Kathy Steffes, sons Jacob, Luke (Mya Towne) all of Hazelhurst; his sister Debbie (Weezer) Weeks of Sharon; sister-in-law: Karen (Jack) Carrig of Cambridge; brothers-in-law: Tim (Denise) Lacke of Lindenhurst, Ill.; David (Karen) Lacke of Shullsburg, and Mick (Chris) Lacke of Dodgeville, and many nieces and nephews.

Scott and Kathy purchased the “cabin” in Hazelhurst from his parents in 1997 and made it their home. He dearly loved the north woods especially the winters snowmobiling and later a more year round passion of riding UTV’s with his “Leisure Shores” family.

He was preceded in death by his brother, David Steffes; his parents, David and Marilyn Steffes; in-laws, James and Barb Lacke; and niece, Courtney Young.

The family would like to thank the friends of “Leisure Shores,” Hazelhurst Pub, Whitmans, and Borowski Little Rice Resort for all the help and support during the past year. The family would also like to recognize Mark Tiffany for his dedicated support of Scooter throughout this journey.

The family would like to thank the staff at Aspirus Hospice, especially Brenda, Kristy, Michele and Alicia, for the compassionate and skilled care given to our beloved Scooter!

A celebration of life is scheduled for Sept. 20 from 2 to 6 p.m. at The Hazelhurst Pub in Hazelhurst. Drop in to share memories, stories, laughter, and a cocktail in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to the charities of the family’s choice; such as Hazelhurst Fire Dept, Glioblastoma Foundation and Aspirus Hospice.

Online condolences may be shared at www.nimsgernfuneral.com. Nimsgern Funeral & Cremation Services is serving the family.
