Mathias Weckerle

February 4, 1937 – September 2, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mathias Weckerle. He departed from this world peacefully at his lake home in St. Germain at the age of 87. Lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary of 65 years; his two sons, Matthew (Susan) Weckerle and Michael Weckerle; grandfather to Jason (Michelle), David, Angela, and Ryan (Stacey); and several surviving relatives and close acquaintances who will miss him deeply.

He is preceded in death by his son, Mark Weckerle.

Mathias was born in Yugoslavia to Martin and Eva and he immigrated to the United States when he was 18 years old.

He worked as a painter for Baumeister Company and a few other companies. Mathias was well respected in his trade as a master craftsman.

Mathias married the love of his life, Mary, in 1959. In their earlier years, time was spent going out with dear friends and dancing on weekends. He played soccer for the Milwaukee Sport Club. He enjoyed family vacations with Mary and their three sons by going to northern Wisconsin. Because of his love for hunting and fishing in the Northwoods, they purchased a seasonal cottage on Little St. Germain Lake and later tore it down to rebuild their retirement home. He was a hard-working father who took pride in everything he did and provided for his family.

Our family is thankful to the nurses and caregivers from Compassus Hospice Care of Arbor Vitae for the care and comfort provided to dad this summer.

The funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Mathias Weckerle will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary, 10315 Main Street, Sayner, WI 54512. Burial to follow at Saint Germain Cemetery.  Bolger Funeral Home is assisting the family, www.bolgerfuneral.com.
