Donald “Don” D. Osborn, 88, a resident of Boulder Junction, passed away August 30, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born September 8, 1935, in Rockford, Ill., to parents Vinal and Edna Osborn. Don graduated from Rockford East High School and North Park College in Chicago. He married Lois Anderson on April 28, 1956.
Don worked at Camcar-Textron for 41 years, starting as a tool expeditor and retiring as executive vice president. He was loved and respected by the employees and others in the industry. He enjoyed vacationing in the Northwoods for several years before he and Lois bought property in 1973. They became full time residents in 2011.
Don was an avid collector of antique clocks and played basketball well into his thirties in amateur and industrial leagues in Rockford.
Don was preceded in death by his daughter: Sarah Osborn; parents and in-laws; sister: Nan Carter; brothers-in-law: Howie Carter, Coe Johnson, and Steve Anderson. He is survived by his wife Lois; children: David (Gayle Derwinski) Osborn, Jill (Bob) Lawrence; grandchildren: Colin, Peter, Andrew (Katie Kirby) Lawrence, Eric Osborn, Nick (Amanda Sedrick) Allen; great-grandchildren: Jaxson and Gabby Lawrence, Hunter and Delaney Allen; sisters-in-law: Ada Johnson, Gail (Dennis) Huffington, Carolyn Anderson; many nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. at Community Church of Boulder Junction, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Memorial donations can be made in honor of Don to the Boulder Junction Fire Department or Northwoods Wildlife Center.
