Lac du Flambeau town board looks to replace Cobb as town supervisor
The two remaining members of the Lac du Flambeau town board have given themselves at least a few days to find a successor to town supervisor Gloria Cobb.
Town chairman Matt Gaulke and town supervisor Bob Hanson, during a special meeting on Friday, Oct. 18, set the close of business on Friday, Nov. 1 as the deadline for people interested in being considered a Lac du Flambeau town supervisor to submit letters of interest to the town.
The intent is for whomever is selected for consideration to be present at the town board’s Nov. 6 meeting so they may introduce themselves and answer questions.
Cobb, a member of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians and a former member of the tribal council, was first elected to the town board in April, 2019.
She was elected once again to the tribal council during the most recent tribal general election on Oct. 1.
Cobb has in recent months recused herself from any discussion or decision related to the current dispute the town has with the tribal council regarding expired easements for four roads on portions of tribal land.
In a statement to the town board and residents at her final meeting as a Lac du Flambeau town supervisor on Wednesday, Oct. 16, she cited the road dispute as the reason for her resignation from the town board.
In comments to The Lakeland Times following the meeting, she said she would continue to recuse herself from meetings of the tribal council when the road issue was discussed.
