Glen Peterson Gilbert, 72, of Rhinelander, passed away on Saturday morning, Sept. 28, 2024, at Marshfield Medical Center in Weston.
Glen was born in Rochester, N.Y. and raised in Chili, N.Y. He graduated in 1970 from the Gates-Chili High School. He was united in marriage to Donna Buckley at the First Presbyterian Church in North Chili, New York on April 28, 1973. The couple lived in Caledonia, New York where Glen was employed as a printer. While living in New York, the couple welcomed a baby girl, Jennifer. In 1988 the family moved to Rhinelander where Glen was employed at Printpack for six years and later was employed with Apria Health Care working there until retiring in 2016.
While living in New York, Glen was involved in his community as an EMT. This same volunteerism carried over to living in the Town of Pine Lake where he served as Chief of the Fire Department. Glen also was a HAM radio operator using the call sign of N9PFS.
He enjoyed photography and had his own darkroom for developing photos. Computers were another enjoyment he had, along with toys and any type of electronic gadgetry.
He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Donna, daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer (Phil) Petro of Madison, two grandsons, Jerry and Max Petro, two sisters, Nancy Junot of Rochester, N.Y. and Sue Sherman (William Belknap) of Utah. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Philip Petro, and siblings, Sally Stice and Larry Gilbert.
A Celebration of Glen’s Life will be held at the Hildebrand Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, from 1 p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial service. Chaplain John Uhlarik will officiate.
Coffee and cake will be served in the funeral home banquet room from 1 to 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Glen may be given to the Pine Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
