Joyce Ramona Norberg, age 87, died peacefully at Friendly Village in Rhinelander early Tuesday morning, October 29, 2024. Her family was by her side for most of eight days prior to her passing.
Joyce was born in Roseau, Minnesota in 1937, the youngest of eight children. The day after graduating Roseau High School in 1955, she married Harvey Norberg and they moved to Chicago, Illinois, where Harvey became a mason tender. They resided in Illinois until 1976 when they moved to Rhinelander so Harvey could start his own masonry business, “Norberg and Son Masonry.”
Joyce managed the family business until Harvey retired in 1998. Harvey and Joyce were active members of Calvary Baptist Church and Pine Grove Community Church. Joyce loved spending time with her family, playing cards, reading, and doing puzzle books. She enjoyed living at Historic West Elementary Apartments during her last six years where she had many friends.
Joyce is survived by daughter, Penny (Jim) Kittelsrud, Utah; grandson, Brandon Norberg (Dana Kotarski), Sugar Camp; granddaughter, Ashley (Colton) Groves, Oregon; and two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Noah Groves, Oregon. She is also survived by her brother, LaDell Nelson of Pleasant Prairie, and dozens of nieces, nephews, and their extended families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey, and sons, Bruce and Brian. She was also preceded in death by her parents and six siblings: Lorraine, Verna, Adelaine, Elroy, Lowell and Geraldine.
There will be no funeral or memorial service for Joyce. Her family will have a private, family gathering next summer. The family would like to thank Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services and the Friendly Village staff for all the love and care they gave to Joyce while she resided at Friendly Village for three months.
During her last several months, Joyce made a special point of telling friends, family and strangers about the saving love of Jesus Christ. She wanted people to know that the only way to have true peace and eternal life is through a personal relationship with Jesus.
