Yvonne “Vonnie” J. Braun passed away peacefully on May 1 at the age of 87. Vonnie was born on New Years Day 1937 to Merlin and Rosalie (nee Trapp) Hunter.
As a teen she participated and collected for the Million Penny Parade.
Vonnie began working at the Plantation Supper Club eventually becoming chef, after high school she and William P. Clawson were married and had three sons. She served those famous sandwiches at Jack Kelliher’s, then the Gabel’s and finally T. Murtaugh’s totaling nearly 30 years.
Vonnie and Jim Braun were married and spent their golden years riding motorcycle and traveling. Vonnie enjoyed playing cards, bowling and deer camp with her sons. She was a tough one surviving five bouts with cancer.
She is survived by sons Jerry Clawson, Gary Clawson and Tim (America) Clawson and by her stepchildren Jenny (Dave) Snyder, Joleyn (Steve) Smithing and Jay (Angela) Braun and by many grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Vonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Braun, her parents, Merlie and Rosalie Hunter, and by her brothers; Rodger, Floyd, Rodney, Sidney Hunter and sister, Evangaline Saykally, and her previous husband William P. Clawson.
Celebration of life for Vonnie will be held on Saturday, July 13 at 1 p.m. at the Arbor Vitae Firemans Park.
