Annette “Anne” C. Cleveland, 87, passed away on March 21, 2024 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Anne was born to Edward and Monica Meyer on March 9, 1937 in Boulder Junction. She was delivered by the legendary Dr. Kate Pelham Newcomb. Anne grew up in Boulder Junction helping her parents run their resort on Fishtrap Lake. She graduated from Arbor Vitae-Woodruff High School in 1955. After graduation, she married Wayne Jolin of Woodruff, and they settled in Rhinelander. Together they had four children. They later divorced and Anne eventually remarried William Cleveland of Rhinelander, and helped raise his three children as well.

While in Rhinelander, Anne was a school secretary for the Rhinelander School system. She worked specifically at Newbold School and later Pelican School. Anne had many hobbies that she pursued in her spare time. She was musically talented and sang and played piano for her church choir. She belonged to various bridge clubs over the years, loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Once Anne retired from the school system, at the age of 60, she moved back to Boulder Junction and then to Hazelhurst. While living in those towns she briefly owned a store in Boulder Junction, worked at Camp Manitowish and later worked as a secretary for The Lakeland Times in Minocqua. During these years, Anne began to travel more and learned to kayak. She enjoyed several kayaking trips out in the Western United States. Once she retired for good, Anne made the decision to move back to Rhinelander to once again be closer to her family. She lived her remaining years there.

Anne is survived by her children, David (Suzi) Jolin, Jeffrey (Stacy) Jolin, Christine (Jolin) Vollmar, and Patrick (Heidi) Cleveland; son-in-law, William Grill; bonus daughter, Olivia De La Garza; 11 grandchildren, Jonathan (Taylor) Jolin, Reid (Samantha) Jolin, Rachael (Matt) Neu, Sara (Bob) Cirilli, Monica (Nick) Janssen, Jesse (Ashley) Grill, Ryan (Patricia) Jolin, Alex (Britnee) Jolin, Jacob Fresques, Reid Vollmar, and Skylar Cleveland. She is further survived by her 13 great-grandchildren, Jace, Jaren, Lukas, Elias, Aurora, Wyatt, Lola, Briar, Willow, Dahlia, Mikah, Laylah, Brantley and one more due to be here in July.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Patricia; daughter, Kathyrn; husbands, Wayne Jolin and William Cleveland, and numerous family members and friends.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Anne’s granddaughters Sara and Monica and to her neighbor Dennis Nelson for all the extra care and support they gave to Anne these past few years. We truly appreciate all the time you all gave to support and help her to live in her own home.

A celebration of Anne’s life will take place on June 15 at Bolger Funeral Home in Woodruff. In lieu of flowers, memorial in Anne’s name can be directed to Camp Manitowish in Boulder Junction.
