Betty D. Hunter

Betty D. Hunter, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Rennes Health and Rehab in Rhinelander with Hospice Services provided by Aspirus Comfort Care.

Betty was born on July 1, 1936, to Dorothy (Locks) and Erwin Steenson in Pelican Lake, and graduated from Minocqua grade school and high school. She played the piano, saxophone, and was a majorette of the band. She married Roger D. Hunter of Arbor Vitae, and they raised their five children in Arbor Vitae. In her later years she lived at One Penny Place in Woodruff.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Erwin Steenson, husband, Roger Hunter and her sister Janet Steenson. Survivors include her three sons and their spouses, Jeff and Rose Hunter of Arbor Vitae, Todd and Wendy Hunter of Arbor Vitae, Doug Hunter of Arbor Vitae; her two daughters and their spouses, Penny and Mike Krueger of Arbor Vitae, and Paula and Mark Sevenich of Westfield, Ind.; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Betty will be remembered by those closest to her for her amazing cooking and baking that she loved to share with others, her helpful hand anytime anyone needed anything and good nature. She was very artistic whether it was a quick free hand sketch (she called doodling) or later when she found a passion for coloring grayscale photos and making her own cards for all occasions. She was very humble and spent her life loving and caring for her family and others. Whether you knew Betty from Minocqua grade school or high school, through her children or working many years at the Arbor Vitae Volunteer Fireman’s Picnic, you know she was always kind, caring and could light up any room with her smile. She truly blessed all whose lives she touched and will be greatly missed by all.

As per Betty’s wishes, she will be cremated with a private family burial. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Howard Young Foundation or the Arbor Vitae Fire Department.
