Gregory Richard Bohn, 70, and Audrey Jean Bohn, 70, of Hazelhurst, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024.
Greg was a legendary Northwoods fishing guide who was inducted into the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame in 2016. Greg’s passion for fishing was supported by his uncles who took him fishing throughout his youth; Minocqua is where Greg would spend his summers fishing and exploring many lakes in the area. He was an inventive writer who published hundreds of articles and several books on walleye fishing during his longtime career. He was nationally known as a tackle designer and seminar speaker. While fishing was his greatest passion, his family was the most important thing to him; his favorite fishing clients were Audrey, his daughters, and his grandchildren.
Greg’s guide career began in Crivitz. In 1983 he moved his family to Minocqua, a beautiful area that provided more than 2,500 lakes to start guiding on. While there, Greg spent years developing techniques and tackle to perfect his fishing which led to the establishment of Stinger Tackle Company.
Audrey was a devoted mother who supported Greg in his career while raising their three daughters. Though Audrey spent her early years in Minocqua supporting Stinger Tackle Company and Strictly Walleye Headquarters, she found her passion in community service. Audrey worked in both medical records and finance at the Howard Young Medical Center for thirteen years and then as the administrative assistant at the Howard Young Foundation for another eleven years. Even post-retirement she could always be found volunteering at local events. Audrey loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren, and in her free time she enjoyed spending time in her beautiful garden, quilting and sewing. These are interests she shared closely with her two beloved sisters.
Greg and Audrey started dating when he would come to Audrey’s house several times to show her the fish he caught each day in hopes to catch her heart, which he did indeed.
Greg and Audrey got married on March 3, 1973 and then moved to Crivitiz to start a family in a prime fishing area.
Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Rickert, and his brother, David Roguska. He is survived by his sisters Patty (Gary) Budzein, and Josie Skodowski.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lois Vallarta. She is survived by her sisters, Kathy Shorter and Nellie (Larry) Ast.
Greg and Audrey are survived by their children; Lisa (Josh) Kennedy, Crystal (Kellen) Anderson and Rebecca (Mike) Stawicki; grandchildren: Abigayl, Kamryn, Jacob, Benjamin, Sadi, Jayda, Joshua Jr. Finley, Jenna, Jordyn, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Greg and Audrey both exemplified love, family, and community service. They took their passions and made it a point to share those with their daughters and grandchildren, leaving a lasting legacy that will live on through generations.
A memorial service and celebration of two wonderful lives will be held at noon, Saturday, July 20, at Faith Evangelical Free Church in Woodruff, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m.
Greg and Audrey will be greatly missed by their families, friends, and the community. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that you donate to Howard Young Foundation — Greg and Audrey Bohn Memorial Fund online at www.howardyoungfoundation.org, or by mail: PO Box 10, Minocqua, WI 54548.
