Jordan

Harriet Jordan passed peacefully into eternal life on January 21, 2024, at the age of 99.

Harriet was born on August 11, 1924, in Wausau. She was the daughter of George (Nate) Coleman and Amalia (nee Hoertsch Coleman). She attended St. James Catholic school and Wausau High school. At age 17 she moved to Rockford, Ill. and worked for the Illinois Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator until age 20. She then joined the WAC (Women’s Army Corp) during World War II serving from 1944 to 1946. After her honorable discharge as a sergeant, she returned to Wausau and was employed at the Veterans Administration until her marriage to James Jordan on August 27, 1949. They shared 68 blessed years together and raised five children.

Harriet loved the Lord. While living in Wausau, she spent many hours volunteering at St. Anthony Retreat Center in Marathon City. After moving to Minocqua fulltime in 1986 she became a parishioner of Holy Family church. There she volunteered in several ministries, her favorite being knitting prayer shawls and helping at Marywood on Trout Lake with Jim.

In her spare time, she enjoyed refinishing old furniture, quilting, and helping her husband, Jim, build their home on Blue Lake in Minocqua. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading anything pertaining to early American history. Harriet loved her country. She was proud of her Coleman ancestors who immigrated to the American Colonies in the 1700s and fought in the Revolutionary War.

She is survived by her five children: Joseph Jordan (Peggy), Mary Young, Nancy Ullmann (Lee), Teresa Colianni (Brian) and Margaret Schwartzbauer (Brian). She has nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Husband James and son-in-law William Young preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 26, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that you donate to Howard Young Foundation-Seasons of Life Hospice. www.howardyoungfoundation.org.
