Byron “Van” Edward VanMeter, 89, joined his loving wife Nan on January 16, 2024, after only being separated for two weeks. He was born in Guthrie, Okla. to parents Vearl and Edna VanMeter.
Byron and Nan were married in 1973. He worked as an electronics technician for WMAQ in Illinois for a number of years. Then when they relocated to the Northwoods he along with Nan owned and operated Van and Nan’s Bar in Woodruff for 13 years. He opened Van’s TV and Electronics after they sold the bar.
Van loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He love to socialize and hang out with friends. He started a country band named Van and the country men. He truly loved music and the time he spent with his family.
Byron was preceded in death by his wife: Nan; his parents; son: Russell Edward VanMeter; daughter: Lisa Louise VanMeter and brothers: Jerry, David and James VanMeter. He is survived by his son: Michael (Amanda) VanMeter; daughter: Juli Ann (Bryan Masters) Froelich; grandchildren: Kaylee Marie VanMeter and one on the way; Brother: William VanMeter and many other friends.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, Jan. 26 at Nimsgern Funeral & Cremation Services from 1 to 3 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m.
