Steven J. Dimig

Steven J. Dimig, of Presque Isle, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024 at Seasons of Life in Woodruff. Born April 10, 1956, in Atlantic, Iowa to Paul and Rose (Procopio) Dimig. They were a farming family, raising purebred Duroc hogs and cattle. Graduated from Atlantic High School in 1974 and went on to Iowa State University, majoring in mechanical engineering. He had a lifelong interest in cars, working mainly as an automotive engineer. After college, he started his career at AC Spark Plug in Oak Creek, where he met his wife Kathy. They married October 6, 1984.

After their three boys were born, the family moved to Plymouth, where they had a hobby farm and raised llamas and sheep. Steve was devoted to his family and enjoyed participating with the boys in the Johnsonville Hustlers 4-H club, 4-H Llama Project and also 4-H Knobby Tires ATV club.

During this time he worked at Hamilton Industries in Two Rivers, Lear Corporation in Sheboygan and Strattec Security in Glendale, where he was the director of advanced development until his retirement in 2018. Steve was always looking for better ways to do things, which resulted in more than 50 patents during his career.

While in Plymouth, Steve was a proud member of the Plymouth Lions Club, taking over the presidency in 2003-04, where he enjoyed the camaraderie with the other members and participating in all the fundraising projects, including fish boil, tailgate/raffle for Packer/Badger games, and the big five-day Sheboygan County Fair, selling their famous grilled cheese sandwiches and corn.

Steve especially enjoyed the Lions' service projects and took on the Lions' reading machine project, bringing the machines to community members in need, setting them up, teaching them and their families how to operate the machines, and being available whenever service or upgrades were needed. He began working with this project in 2003-04 and continued until retiring to Presque Isle in 2018. His son Michael has now taken on this project. Steve was happy to join an active Lions Club in Presque Isle where he also enjoyed working on many fundraising events, such as the annual rummage sale, pancake breakfast and lobster dinner. He also served as president of the Presque Isle Lions Club. Through Lions, Steve earned a number of awards: Lion of The Year, Melvin Jones Fellow and Knight of Sight.

Steve was also active in the Winegar Riders ATV/UTV club in Presque Isle, and became president of that club as well. He enjoyed all the opportunities to give back and be part of his retirement community. He was very active in St. Rita Catholic Church, serving on the maintenance committee and as trustee.

Preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, brother-in-law, survived by wife Kathy (Wojnowski) Dimig of Presque Isle, sons Joe (Colleen) of Milwaukee, Michael (Jackie) of Plymouth, and Ben (Paige) of Elkhart Lake, sister Patrice Procopio of Milwaukee, mother-in-law Doris Ingman of Tomahawk, many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, one great-great-niece, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Rita Catholic Church in Presque Isle on Monday, February 26, at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior starting at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers please direct donations to Presque Isle Lions and St. Rita Church, Presque Isle.
