Betty Goff peacefully passed away February 1, 2024, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.
Betty was born at home in Argo, Ill. on August 21, 1935, to Pearl and Lawrence Cauhorn. Betty was a highly active student at Argo Community High School. She was a member of the Commercial Honor Society and recipient of the Drama Award. She also participated in the senior play, operetta, chorus, and Rooter’s Club, in addition to being a library aide and lifeguard. She graduated high school in 1953.
On June 19, 1954, she married the love of her life, James Goff, Sr. in a home wedding in Bruce. Their marriage is a 70-year testament to never-ending love and faithfulness. Prior to having children, Betty and Jim took many fishing trips to Canada. Betty loved fishing and for many years proudly displayed the tiger muskie she caught while on one trip.
After living in Illinois and Kansas for several years, they moved to Bruce to raise their three children, Jim Jr., Michael, and Patricia.
Betty was a very recognizable face in Bruce. For several years she worked at Martindale’s 40 and 8 Drive-in, before working in the banking industry. She started as bank teller in the original Dairyland State Bank on main street Bruce and remained there for 25+ years, before she and Jim moved to Cameron, where she retired from the Community Bank of Cameron. In 1999, Jim and Betty moved to Minocqua.
In addition to being a loving mother, devoted wife and devout Christian, Betty was an avid cook. She loved cooking from scratch. Her pies and biscuits and gravy were favorites at family gatherings. She enjoyed canning, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and was an ardent reader. She also was like a mother to many through the years in Bruce. It was common for friends of her children to call her mom. Betty also loved football; her favorite players were Barry Sanders and Walter Payton. Hockey was also a favorite of Betty’s. At one time, she and Jim were season ticket holders for the Chicago Blackhawks.
Betty is survived by her children, Jim Jr. of Houston, Mo., Michael (Lisa) of Lac du Flambeau. and Patti (Rick Ensenbach) of Bruce. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and their spouses/significant others, Dan (Nicole), Chris (Thanna), Sarah, Andy (Ann), Caleb (Sarah), Deanna, and Katy (Cory). She was also the “very” proud great-grandmother to Kaden, Kenna, Josslynn, Nicole, Liliana, Tyren, Maisie, Ada, and Hayes.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jim, parents, siblings (Jean and Kay), daughter-in-law Carolyn, grandson Ryan, great-grand-daughter Hannah.
Betty will be missed by her family but know that she has rejoined her husband and family in heaven. Betty will be buried in a private ceremony at Apollonia Protestant Cemetery in the spring.
The family would like memorial gifts to be sent to Park Manor Nursing Home, 250 Lawrence Ave, Park Falls, WI 54552.
