Robert Louis Malek, 78, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 3, 2024 in Minocqua. He was born on October 8, 1945 in Chicago to Louis Frank Malek and Rosalie (nee) Berdziak. Bob was preceeded in death by his father Louis, his mother Rosalie, sister Elaine Vissers, grandson Alex Malek-Laraia, son Kevin Malek, and daughter Kathlene “KiKi” LeClaire. He is survived by his loving wife Joanie, his sister Cheri Malek, his daughter Karen Malek-Wildenberg, 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren which he truly adored. Robert graduated from Brother Rice High School in Chicago in 1963. He then continued his education at UW Madison and received his bachelor of science degree in pharmacy in 1969. Bob met the love of his life Joanie Adkins and they were married Aug. 14, 1971 at St. Rita Catholic Church in Chicago.
They relocated their family to Minocqua, in 1975 where he opened Northland Pharmacy. Northland Pharmacy was proud to sponsor the Lakeland Area Vacationland Peewee and Girls Softball leagues. In the 1980’s he decided to close and become a relief pharmacist creating “Pharmacist Relief North.” Robert was a lifelong hunter, fisherman and gardener. He loved his property and rode his chariot along his many trails visiting his fairies, elves and gnomes. He gave the love of the Northwoods to his family and always said “It will get better someday.” He was also an accomplished author publishing the “Helm” trilogy. Upon reading his work, one would truly understand his love for fiction and epic fantasy. Services will be Aug. 17 at Bolger Funeral Home in Woodruff. Visitation starts at 1 p.m., service at 1:30 p.m. with light refreshments to follow.
