Barbara M. Hellwig

Barbara M. Hellwig, 84, of Arbor Vitae, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff. Barb was born on October 27, 1939 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Tony and Antoinette (nee Tourek) Fiala.

She attended high school in Phillips and attended Grant Hospital School of Nursing. Barb went on to become a nurse, most recently retiring from Ministry Home Care in 2004. She married John Hellwig on December 5, 1981 in Minocqua. Barb was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Minocqua, was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John and stepdaughter Toni. Barb is survived by her sisters, Nancy Drumm (Dave) and Judy Bruhl (Garth); nieces and nephews, Gene Johnson (Kim), Lance Bruhl (Taylor), Brady Bruhl (Kelsy), Kathy Sheppard (Corky), Susan Green (Mark), Anthony LaRose (Charmaine). She is further survived by her stepchildren; John Jr (Genevieve) Hellwig, Traci (Bob) Schumacher, Greg Hellwig, Kellie (Andrew) Stranger and many grandchildren, greatnieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Minocqua on Saturday, Aug. 10. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m.
