It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Judy Giles, 86, on April 3, 2024. She was born on June 17, 1937, in Waukesha, where she graduated from Waukesha High School and attended Carroll College and the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing before marrying her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Giles, in 1958. Lloyd and Judy spent the first half of their married life mainly in Crystal Lake, Ill. before fulfilling Judy’s lifelong dream of moving to Boulder Junction.
She devoted her life to raising her four children and helping others. Over the years she volunteered her time as a reading tutor, a Brownie troop leader, and a deliverer of Meals on Wheels while she lived in Crystal Lake. After moving to her beloved town of Boulder Junction, she spent many happy years as a volunteer at the Boulder Junction Library and was an active member of the Friends of the Library, especially their annual Cookie Walk. Judy also volunteered at the Community Church of Boulder Junction’s food pantry and she served many years as secretary/treasurer on the board of the Little Crooked Lake Association. Judy will be most remembered for her love of food, wine, laughter, family and friends. She loved to cook and her enviable cookbook collection filled an entire wall. She and Lloyd were gracious hosts for many, many dinner parties in their home, always featuring an abundance of appetizers and cocktails.
Judy leaves behind Lloyd, love of her life and husband of 66 years. She also leaves her children Jill (Steve) Eckel, Tim (Melissa) Giles, David (Kolleen) Giles and Michael Giles, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her sister, Carole Giesie. She will be deeply missed by all family and friends who knew and loved her.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Milestone Assisted Living memory care unit for enhancing Judy’s quality of life in her final year and a half.
At Judy’s request, no visitation or funeral service will be held. A private celebration of life will be held at some time in the future. It is the family’s wish that any remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Boulder Junction Public Library.
Condolences may be shared at www.bolgerfuneral.com.
