Marilyn “Lyn” Ruth (Beard) Hurbanis of Sayner, 84, died after a battle with lung cancer and went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 3, 2023 in Orlando, Fla.
Marilyn is survived by her son Robert Charles “R.C.” Hurbanis, Jr. and daughter-in-law Jackie Hurbanis of Cypress, Texas and Matthew David Hurbanis (Kelly) of Orlando, Fla.; her grandchildren: Mark, Michael, Andrew and Gabrielle Hurbanis of Cypress, Texas and Peyton Larson (Micah), Amanda and Luke Hurbanis of Orlando, Fla.; her great-granddaughter, Avery Larson; her brother-in-law Larry Stephenson of Sayner; her stepsister Carole Fingerson of Richland, Wash.; her nieces Bonnie (Beard) Patterson (Ken) of Rochester, N.Y., Susan (Stephenson) Dyke (John) of Mt. Horeb, and her nephews Richard Wade Beard (Suzy) of Marengo, Ill. and David Stephenson (Julie) of Randolph.
She is preceded in death by her mother Ruth Augusta Mikkelsen and father Earl Gilman Beard, Jr. of Park Ridge, Ill.; her stepfather Joseph Glickauf of Sayner; her brother Richard Beard (Barbara) of Sayner; her sister Joan Stephenson of Sayner; her aunt Elsa Mikkelsen of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
Marilyn was born on July 17, 1938 in Evanston, Ill. to parents Ruth Augusta Mikkelsen and Earl Gilman Beard, Jr. Her father served as a Lieutenant in the Navy during WWII. Her Aunt Elsa was a Navy WAVE during WWII and Lyn received her Aunt Elsa’s flag at her funeral. She graduated from Carthage College in Carthage, Ill.with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She married Robert Charles Hurbanis, Sr. in 1960 and the couple had two children together, Robert Charles Hurbanis, Jr. and Matthew David Hurbanis. Marilyn was a loving and devoted mother.
In 1981, she moved to Dallas, and accepted a position with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation where she worked for more than 20 years. This move allowed her to visit her son, R.C., and his family in Cypress, Texas often. Her grandchildren brought her much joy and pride.
Lyn was a social, active woman who was deeply involved in her church for the majority of her life. She enjoyed sharing her faith and love for Jesus Christ, the sanctuary of the Northwoods and feeding the local wildlife. Her family and friends will always remember her as a loving, caring, independent person.
A celebration of life is scheduled on Nov. 20 at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Sayner. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m. Internment of ashes will take place at Sayner Cemetery after the service. Pastor Bill Wendorf will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marilyn’s life and enjoy lunch and fellowship at the church. The family would like to thank Lyn’s church family and friends for their steady support and perpetual prayers.
