Robert R. “Bud” Stice, 89, of Mercer, died with his daughter by his side on Friday, September 1, 2023, in Kansasville. He was born on April 25, 1934, in Slidell, Texas to Hatty (nee Gregory) and Tom Stice where he was orphaned at an early age.
He was cared for by his brother TJ and wife Dora and then by Dora’s mother Miss Rudolph. Once his brother Bill Stice was married to Emma Stice, Bud was moved from Texas to Waukegan, Ill. to live with them where he finished his childhood.
Bud worked at Johnson Outboard Motors and became a licensed barber. He met his friend’s cousin Shirley Boshantin and married her. They were husband and wife for 58 years. Bud retired from Johnson Outboard and Shirley from Warren Township High School, moving from Wadsworth, Ill. to Mercer, where they resided on the Flambeau Flowage to enjoy fishing, snowmobiling, casinos, and their grandkids and friends. Bud was preceded by his wife Shirley and brothers: Bill (Emma) Stice and TJ (Dora) Stice. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Stice-Rockwell and grandchildren Sam and Peter Rockwell.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the American Legion Post in Union Grove (1027 New St. Union Grove, WI 53182). Prayers and military honors will be conducted at noon. The bar opens at 11:30 a.m. and tacos will be served following the services.
