Northwoods Land Trust is delighted to announce it will host Hiking the Two Towers Trail at Minocqua Winter Park on Friday, Sept. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will take place at Minocqua Winter Park in Minocqua and is open to everybody.

During the event, guests will hike a 5km/three-mile loop that visits the two highest points at the popular winter recreation facility. This trail is located within the 3,195-acre conservation easement currently held with Northwoods Land Trust, on land owned and managed by the Minocqua Winter Park Foundation.

At this time of year, bugs should be at a minimum and fall colors should be nearing their maximum! The scenic overlook on Squirrel Hill provides a great panoramic view, which is fairly uncommon in the heavily forested, fairly flat part of northern Wisconsin. We should be able to see parts of the Yukon and Squirrel River along with various wetland and forest habitat types from various vantage points along the trail. This 5 km/3 mi hike is rated as strenuous due to the vertical relief encountered.

The event is free to attend. Registration is required by going online to www.northwoodslandtrust.org and click on ‘News & Events’ to sign up, or by emailing Troy Walters at [email protected]. Further trip details will be provided upon registration.

The Northwoods Land Trust is proud to host this event during the sixth annual Wisconsin Land Trust Days event series organized by Gathering Waters: Wisconsin’s Alliance for Land Trusts.

Wisconsin Land Trust Days is an annual celebration of land trusts featuring family-friendly events that take place every year in July, August, and September. Guests learn about the benefits and importance of protecting natural places in their communities. A full list of Wisconsin Land Trust Days events is available at www.HaveFunOutside.org.

“Wisconsin Land Trust Days gives us the opportunity to invite people to Minocqua Winter Park to explore an amazing trail system among this 3,195-acre conservation easement, the largest land trust-held conservation easement in the state” said Troy Walters, Outreach & Monitoring Coordinator of Northwoods Land Trust. “We’re happy to be part of the land trust community, which helps protect and preserve Wisconsin’s special natural places.”
