Darla Sue Poiron
Darla Sue Poiron was born in San Diego, on February 23, 1947, and died in St. Paul, on June 10, 2023. Preceded in death by Father Eugene (Gene) Joseph Poiron, Mother Eve Lela (Bowman) Poiron and sister Jo Antoinette (Toni) Poiron Schaetz.
Darla was born in California but spent her summers, from the time she was a toddler, in Manitowish Waters. There, her family became true members of the community by establishing a riding stable, and a lodge under the name of “Flying P.” She was also a founding member of the Skiing Skeeters Water Skiing Club. Prior to her death, Darla did an interview with the Manitowish Waters Historical Society which can be found on youtube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwNFN_LlQtQ.
Darla’s work history was varied. It ranged from sales of fine jewelry, designing and teaching software applications, and other computer related jobs, to cleaning and deicing airplanes and back to tech support for Delta. It was her work with Control Data that brought her to Minnesota.
In addition to her formal education of a bachelor of arts with a business emphasis, she was a trained massage therapist, as well as a healing touch practitioner. She volunteered her time at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis and served on the boards of North Central Morgan Assoc., North Central Healing Touch and her townhome community.
Her love of horses followed her throughout her life and she had horses of her own after moving to Minnesota. She also gained a fondness for airplanes from her father, which formed another avenue of connection to those around her. Darla made friends wherever she went and believed in the power of women. Her presence will be missed by many more than she realized and I wish her joy in her journey.
There will be a celebration of life on Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Oakwood Funeral Home in Maplewood, Minn., and a celebration of life on Oct. 28 from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. at Little Bohemia in Manitowish Waters and a burial at Pine Lawn Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. in Manitowish Waters.
