William “Bill” Van Veghel

William “Bill” Van Veghel, 91, of Presque Isle, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023 at Seasons of Life Hospice in Woodruff.

Bill was born in Milwaukee, grew up in West Allis and went into the Army shortly after graduating from high school. After his military service, he went on to work in plant protection at Allis Chalmers. He was lucky to retire early and move to Presque Isle “God’s Country” with his wife Sherry.

Bill enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. When he wasn’t hunting, he could be found puttering in his garage, finding things to fix around the house, or watching cowboy movies. Bill was also proud to have served a term as post commander for the local American Legion.

He is survived by his loving wife Sharon, “Sherry”; daughter, Debra (Steven) Heintzkill; son, John (Darlene) Van Veghel; stepdaughter, Cindy Wagner; grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

A graveside service will be on Wednesday Oct. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the Presque Isle Cemetery.
