Donald Lawrence Metzger, 85 of Woodruff, passed away on Wednesday, July 19 at Marshfield Medical Center in Weston. Don was born on July 12, 1938 in Fulton, Ill. the son of Lawrence and Mary Metzger. Don graduated from DeWitt High School and was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
Don worked as a machinist for many years. He was an active member of Faith Evangelical Free Church. He loved spending time with his family, music, fishing and serving others and sports. He was an avid supporter of Lakeland Union High School athletics. If you didn’t see him at a sporting event, he was at Culver’s enjoying butter pecan ice cream.
He is survived by his children Kurt (Karen), Chad (Sandi), Emily (Nathan) and Jay (Sarah) and by his grandchildren Andrew, Jonathan, Grant, Christopher, Elizabeth, Max, Maggie, Abigail, Luke, Timothy, Isaac, Jack, Brock, Anna, Maverick, Luke, Clark, Nora, Hank, Benjamin, Moriah, Jenna, William, Ava Grace, Sophia, Paisley, and Aubree and by his great-grandchildren Lawrence, Emilia, Brantley, Ele, Yuki and Santiago. He is further survived by his sister JoAnn LeFleur and by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Mary Metzger and by his daughter Amy Metzger Schulz and his siblings Wally, Arlene, Genevieve, Margaret and Fred and by his great grandbaby Zeke Metzger.
Visitation for Don will be held on Sunday, July 30 at Faith Evangelical Free Church in Woodruff from 2 to 3:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:30 p.m. Burial will take place at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Brule, next to his daughter Amy.
