Lawrence “Larry” Burr Caldwell

Caldwell

Lawrence (Larry) Burr Caldwell, 79, of Minocqua, passed away peacefully in his home on July 4, 2023.

Larry was born on October 9, 1943, in Berwyn, Ill., to William and Bette Caldwell. He graduated from Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Ill., and went on to pursue a degree at the University of Illinois School of Pharmacy. He graduated in 1968 and married his wife Pam (Unger) of Wilmette, Ill., on Oct, 6 of that year.

While Larry had many interests, two in particular shaped the course of his life: his love of being on or near the water and his desire to help others through his work as a pharmacist. After five years in Riverside, Ill., the two interests came together in 1973 when he and Pam moved to Minocqua. Larry was hired on the spot by local pharmacist Joe Mastalski when he learned Larry had no interest in hunting. He and Joe later became partners in ownership of the Clinic Pharmacy at Lakeland Medical Associates. Larry retired from Marshfield Clinic in 2013 after 45 years in a profession he loved. He was a past board member of the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin and a member of the American Pharmacist Association, was passionate about continuing education, and maintained his pharmacy license until his passing.

Larry enjoyed fifty years in the Northwoods raising a family, boating and skiing on Lake Shishebogama, cheering for the Chicago Bears, and serving the community in a variety of ways. He was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church, served as a local AODA board member, was active in the Shishebogama/Gunlock Lake Association, and was a member of the Restless Weasels of Lac du Flambeau. Larry was known by many as a kind, knowledgeable man who was generous with his time and focused on helping others. His family meant the world to him, and he will be greatly missed by the many loved ones, friends, and customers he helped over the years.

Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, son Ben (Mindy) Caldwell of Madison, daughter Heather (Paul) Hesse of Neenah, granddaughter Ashlynn, grandson Boaz, brother Carl (Camille) Caldwell, sister Cathi (Rick) Scholl, sister-in-law Renee Caldwell, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill Caldwell, and nephew Paul Caldwell.

A memorial service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church in Minocqua on Monday, July 24, with visitation at 1 p.m. and service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Larry’s name to Northwoods Wildlife Center, Lakeland Pantry, Wounded Warriors, or a charity of your choice. Bolger Funeral Home is assisting the family, www.bolgerfuneral.com for condolences.
