Nickle

Mark Weinert Nickle was born January 16, 1951 in Chicago, and died December 13, 2023 in Woodruff. Mark lived with the impact of Lyme Disease and after many years, the complications started slowing him down. Mark passed away surrounded by family and close friends, Buck W. and Bob T.

He was the eldest son of Janet (Augspurger) and Robert Weinert Nickle; brother of Onni, John (deceased), Todd and Piet and half-brother of Ann and Meg both living in Australia. Uncle of Demian Vincenty, Esa Nickle, Juliette Miller Nickle, all of Ann and Meg’s children and great-uncle of Lina and Declan Vincenty and Conrad Miller, brother-in-law of Ann Conner and his former wife Pamela Grey now of Vermont.

Mark grew up and went to school in Chicago, in the Old Town neighborhood and graduated from La Salle Elementary School and Lane Technical High School. Mark traveled for a number of years, living in Maine, Calif., New Mexico and finally back in Chicago where he worked closely with his artist father, until his passing in 1980. In 1986, Mark and Pam moved from San Pedro, Calif. to the family Minocqua lakeside cabin where they established a sewing business, “Sew What.”

He was a lifelong vegetarian who advocated that “if you cannot create life you do not have the right to destroy life” and “Don’t eat anything that has a face.” Mark would say he loved Wisconsin because it had more trees than people. He loved his dogs and cats and cherished his connection with the wildlife, particularly the deer and chipmunks! Mark was a skilled mechanic and was employed at Ken’s Marine Center, Minocqua Yamaha and Marine, Scott’s Northwood’s Diesel and most recently for Trig’s Recycling Center.

Mark earned the nickname Sparkie from the hundreds of people he helped with his skills throughout his life. He was very loved by those who knew him and his absence from the Minocqua/Woodruff community will be tremendous.

The family will plan a celebration of Mark’s life at a later date.

His family wishes to take this opportunity to express their gratitude to the staff at Aspirus Howard Young Medical Center for the loving care they provided during his end of life experience.

Bolger Cremation & Funeral Services is assisting the family, www.bolgerfuneral.com to share condolences.
