Dorothy M. Smith, age 88, of Manitowoc passed away on December 4, 2023, at Aurora Health Center-Two Rivers.
Dorothy was born April 25, 1935, to Patrick and Dorothy (Holmes) Sheahan in Milwaukee. She graduated from St. Pius XI High School in 1953. On July 6, 1957, she married the love of her life Richard Smith at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in West Allis.
Dorothy retired in 1990, following a career with Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Family Health Systems. Dorothy and Richard were blessed to have shared many wonderful years of retirement in Minocqua and Mercer. While living in the Northwoods, Dorothy enjoyed volunteering for the fire department auxiliary and serving on the funeral committee at St. Isaac Jogues parish. Following Richard’s passing, Dorothy moved to Felician Village in Manitowoc to be closer to her family. Dorothy loved living at Felician Village and enjoyed participating in many activities including card games, Wii bowling and special event celebrations. She was also an avid Packer and Badger fan.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Patricia, Mary Ann, Ann (Johnnie), and brother Terrance. Dorothy is survived by her loving children: Richard (Donna) Smith, Timothy (Judy) Smith, Kendall (Karen) Smith, and Wendy (William) Dorley. She is survived by seven grandchildren: Joseph Smith, Paul (significant other, Madi) Smith, Jennifer (Marc) Luecke, Courtney Smith, Kelsey Smith, Jacob (Rachael) Smith, and Hannah Dorley. She is also survived by two great grandchildren: Eden and Douglas Luecke, sister-in-law Gayle, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy’s life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church in Mercer at 11:45 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will follow at the Mercer Town Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Felician Village, Aurora Home Health Care Services, Aurora-Two Rivers Hospital, and St. Mary’s Nursing Home.
