Michael James “Mykos” Ress, 70 of Manitowish Waters, passed away on Tuesday, August 1 at his residence. Mykos was born on February 12, 1953 in Racine, the son of James and Frieda (nee Heck) Ress. He attended UW-Stevens Point and UW-Madison earning his bachelors degree in kinesiology in 2002. He was employed by the UW-Madison athletic department. He provided massage therapy to Badger student athletes, mainly football and wrestling.
He moved to Northern Wisconsin where he was employed by EAU as a massage therapist at the Spa. He retired but continued employment at the MAC and working outdoors as a grounds keeper.
Mykos enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, canning and fishing. Mykos utilized all that he grew in his prized garden, located at His “happy” place his property in Mercer. He named it the Arc.
Mykos loved the arts, music especially Sinatra, and theater. He had participated with the Presque Isle Community Players.
He is survived by his sister Kathy (Tom) Hostad and by his nephews Jonathon and Michael Hostad. Mykos is further survived by his extended northwoods family, Rita Mazur, Joe (Jess) and their children Madison and Sara; Matt (Kailey) and Penny (Burton) and their children Wally and Andrew and all of his numerous friends from EAU. And of course his beloved dog, Atlas.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Frieda Ress.
Celebration of life will take place at a later date.
