James D. Groskopf

James D. Groskopf, age 83, of Minocqua, formerly Wisconsin Rapids, and Marco Island, Fla., passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Edenbrook in Wisconsin Rapids.
James was born in 1939 in Wisconsin Rapids, to Delton and Eleanor (Stueck) Groskopf. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957. James married Geraldine Flick on April 23, 1960, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. James worked at Consolidated Papers in Wisconsin Rapids for 42 years. He retired in 1999 as an Environmental Technician at Kraft Division.
James was a member at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, and Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff, WI. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, boating, and fishing. He and fishing buddy, Carl, caught many musky and walleye. He went on memorable elk hunting trips to British Columbia, Canada and Wyoming. He loved traveling, touring and cruising throughout the U.S. and world with Gerri and family. James spent many winters in southwest Florida, and he was a certified scuba diver. He enjoyed Friday night fish fry with friends and family, time spent outside doing lawn work, and riding his John Deere. He was an avid NASCAR and Green Bay Packers fan.
James is survived by his wife, Geraldine; children, Troy Groskopf and Wendy Groskopf Gherity; grandson, Aidan Rainn Gherity; sister, Bonnie Worzalla; nieces; nephews; cousins; and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Roy and Viola Flick; infant granddaughter, Raine Marie; brother, Dale Groskopf; sister, Shirley Olsen; and brothers-in-law, Larry Worzalla and Allen Olsen.
Verse 31: God Saw You Getting Tired — “God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be; so He put His arms around you, and whispered, “Come to me.” With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away; Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.”
Rest in peace after a life well lived. You are and ever will be in our hearts.
A private family memorial will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in James’s name to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids, Our Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff, South Wood County Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
