Byron G. Peterson, Sr.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents, Charles Peterson and Louise (LaSota) Peterson; brothers, Charlie Peterson and a baby Stanley and sister, Francine Peterson.
Byron grew up with a love of music and traditional Indian dancing, which he did for the vast majority of his life. He danced in fancy dance style and then moved to the traditional style. Byron loved listening to the drums at Pow-Wows and was very proud of his grandsons that followed in his footsteps in the arenas and around the drum. He also enjoyed watching them play their sports — basketball, track or football. As a young man, Byron was a Golden Gloves Boxer. He was also the local barber and enjoyed visiting with the people he served; especially the older ones and hearing their stories. Later in life, Byron enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, taking his dog Kooch for rides and visiting with family — he was often found with one of them or on his way to meet them for breakfast at several local cafes throughout the area.
Over the years, Byron worked at the Tribal Center (as it was known when he worked there) and then at Lake of the Torches Resort Casino and then moved to the Lac du Flambeau Grade School, where he found his work home and retired after 25 years of service.
Byron was a man who loved to joke, laugh and tell old funny stories. He could laugh at himself (these would often be his funniest stories) and seemed to have a story with so many he crossed paths with. Byron was a great man.
Services will begin at noon and last until 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, at the Multi-Purpose Building in Lac du Flambeau.
