Bonnie M. Anschuetz
Bonnie Peacefully set aside her shell and joined her beloved Bob on August 21, 2022. They are most likely catching up over a glass of wine and a bowl of popcorn, watching the sun set in the Northwoods.
Bonnie is survived by her darling daughter (DD) Sally, and her daughter in California, Carol (Brian) Eliel, who gave her the two most cherished gifts of her life in her grandchildren, Zoe and Noah. Also survived by loving nephews Bill (Sue) Wresch, Curt (Lorna) Anschuetz, nieces Sue Shimmon, Nancy (Bill) Knight, her favorite cousin George Martin, and all her extended Martin, Wresch, Shimmon, and Knight 2nds — 3rds — removeds, the adopted Doedens …which are just words to say family.
A true Milwaukee native, Bonnie graduated from Washington High School and then Milwaukee Teachers College, going on to teach second grade where she met her dear friend for life Ann ‘Tudy’ Joys (“Are you that old?!”) After being a single working woman through the 1950s, her life changed in 1961, when Bob crashed a teacher’s bowling league “to meet the ladies.” It was love at first sight, and they married six months later. Bonnie and Bob raise their family in Thiensville, and were active members of Crossroads Church. In 1986, they moved to Woodruff, to begin retired life, First, on Madeline Lake and then in the Virgin Pines Condos (where Bonnie always got a kick out of it when the local youth creatively rearranged certain vowels.) They loved their membership and friends at the Church of the Pines, which gave them yet another family.
Bonnie lost her beloved Bob in 2011, and was dealt another blow in 2012, when she suffered a stroke. While her mind remained clear her body wasn’t cooperating, and she moved back to the Milwaukee area so that Sal could help in her care. While the last decade was increasingly difficult Bonnie stayed positive and upbeat, excited by news of Zoe and Noah, and always cheering for her Brewers.
To Bonnie’s relatives and friends; to Crossroads and Church of the Pines; to her sorority sisters and Mad Gabs; to her bridge, book, and quilting clubs; to all of her caregivers at the Lutheran home, and to anyone else who ever touched Bonnie’s kind, giving, and graceful life, thanks for being a part of her journey.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Crossroads Presbyterian Church (6031 W Chapel Hill Rd, Mequon) at 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. A luncheon to follow.
