Nancy enjoyed her leisurely walks through the neighborhood and especially the Raven Nature Trail; picking blackberries, biking, fishing, gardening, knitting prayer shawls for Holy Family Catholic Church and every Monday night attended snowshoe baseball in Lake Tomahawk. For the past eight years Nancy and Dave spent February and March in Glendale, Ariz. where they met and made many new friends.
Nancy is survived by Dave of 44 years and three children: Matt of Manitowish Waters, Luke and friend Lynn Wright of Woodruff, Katie and fiancé Stephan Rencontre of Minocqua and by her number one grandson Noah also of Minocqua; five sisters, Kathryn Ulmen of Green Bay, Julie (Ray) Lindeman of Ledgeview, MaryJo (Bill) Kress of Green Bay, Susie (Rick) Verheyen of Denmark, Peggy (Mike) Nemetz of Wausaukee and a very dear friend whom she considered a sister, Jane (Greg) Cornell of DePere.
Nancy is also survived by sister and brother-in-law Nancy and Roger VandenLangenberg and brother and sister-in-law Ken and Suzy VanderLoop all Green Bay. Aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, godchild, cousins, friends and colleagues. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Dorothy Ulmen and a brother Mike Ulmen and sister-in-law Diane VanderLoop. One of Nancy’s biggest fears was if she would ever be able to knit again and I would reassure her absolutely. So, on Aug. 25, I can picture her sitting on the couch watching Heartland and knitting up a storm.
Donations will be divided between Lakeland Community Gardens and Holy Family Catholic Church Prayer Shawl unless otherwise specified. A special thank you goes out to Father Jerry Pastor of Holy Family, all the people who donated food or visited. Nancy and Dave’s family along with Jane for their willingness to lend a hand. But especially, Matt, Luke, Lynn, Katie, Stephan and Noah, who were always there for her. You could see the joy in her eyes when they frequently stopped for a visit. Also, Compassus Hospice for your assistance and care and Dr. Yasar in caring for Nancy at MCHS Oncology.
Nancy always said after all this country’s turmoil over the years that she only believed in heaven, because we are living in hell on earth. After witnessing what she went through these past 85 days, we believe her.
Nancy, mom and grandma, may you rest in peace for you are, and ever will be, in our hearts.
A funeral Mass for Nancy will be held on Friday, Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. with a memorial gathering from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff.
