Following a stint as a high school mathematics teacher in Illinois, he explored careers including project manager for EDP Consultants and later, 3M Company, as a product coordinator and supervisor for new product marketing and sales. In the early 1970s, Ken’s entrepreneurial spirit — coupled with a love of fishing and the Lakeland area — prompted him to relocate to Minocqua and open a wholesale sporting goods business serving northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for over 20 years.
Concurrently, Ken served the Lakeland community as chairman of the board for Northwoods Rehabilitation Associates and as trustee on the boards of Howard Young, Eagle River Memorial Hospital, and Dr. Kate Newcomb Convalescent Center. Following his retirement, he relocated to Punta Gorda, Fla. Friends will remember Ken’s generosity of time and talent, quick wit (and bad puns), and “never give up” fighting spirit which he exhibited into his last days.
He is survived by his former wife, Judy Granik and their daughter, Allison (Wade) Carter; granddaughter, Julianna; and his partner and companion, Diane Mekeel.
