Wilma A. Kresl, 85, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022.
Wilma was born October 17, 1936, to Mike and Tillie Hafenbreadl in Loyal. She grew up on a farm there with her parents, brother Armond, and sister Judy. In 1951, the family moved to Woodruff. She was a princess for the Million Penny Parade, where a geometry class made the largest penny as a fundraiser for the local hospital. After graduating in 1954, she started working at the bank until 1957. She then moved to Hemingford, Neb. and met Alvin Kresl. They married in October 11, 1958. To this union a daughter, Toni and son, Mike were born.
Wilma farmed with Alvin until his death in 2017 and continued to live on the home place until her passing.
Wilma loved the outdoors, she was a big part in the farm life they made together, she loved mowing the yard, tending to the garden, flowers and all the animals that came and went throughout her life.
She was very active in clubs in the community and a member of the St Bridget’s Catholic Church in Hemingford. Her hobbies kept her busy during the winter months knitting, crocheting and she loved to cook and bake for family and friends. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, every time they were playing you didn’t dare interrupt her game.
Wilma is survived by her son, Mike (Julie) of Hemingford, her daughter, Toni (Dave) Buskirk of Deadwood, S.D., her three grandsons, Andy (Samantha) Kresl of Hemingford, Tim (Kristen) Buskirk of Chadron and Travis (Courtney) Buskirk of Fargo, N.D. and her eight great-grandchildren, Joei, Rhett, and Reid Kresl, Caden and Brynn Buskirk, Jack, Barrett, and Kate Buskirk. She is also survived by her brother Armond Hafenbreadl (Charlene Nixon) of Mesa Ariz., and her sister, Judy Warthen (Dave) of Prescott Valley Ariz.
Wilma is preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Tillie Hafenbreadl and her husband, Alvin Kresl.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday, Oct 4, at St. Bridget Catholic Church. Father Matt Koperski officiated, the interment was at the Hemingford Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Hemingford Volunteer Firefighters Association.
