Donald V. Caudle passed away unexpectedly from a heart condition on his way to his nephew’s funeral in Illinois on November 2, 2022. Don was born on June 9th, 1941 to Arlie and Opal Caudle in Chicago.
Don married the love of his life, Janice (Peterson) on October 19, 2013. They enjoyed their lives together immensely. They worked together, loved traveling together, especially to Mexico for their annual trip, historic trips around the country, learning about and visiting locations where his ancestors lived, working outside, and manicuring their gardens, spending time with their family and cherishing the years they had.
He enjoyed interesting job and career opportunities, all which included owning his own Standard station in Lac du Flambeau. This allowed him to mingle with the locals and learn and share many stories of folklore. He had many friends in Lac du Flambeau who loved to stop by and visit with him. After Don and Jan met, they moved to Madison, where Don spent 16 years transporting the elderly and handicapped. He found this to be a very rewarding job. After they retired, they moved to Minocqua. Don couldn’t seem to sit still. He spent the next few years driving a transit bus in Minocqua. He continued to be interested in people’s stories and sharing his knowledge of wildlife in the area. He enjoyed serving his customers with reliable service and consideration.
The Northwoods was a very important part of who Don was. Hunting with his sons was one of the fondest memories that Don and his sons shared, and of course, the stories of the “ones that got away” while on their deer-hunting excursions. Don always had the time for his sons and had time to sit around with them sharing his stories and their stories about their lives and his beloved grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Opal, his brother Charles Caudle, nephew Dale Caudle and brother-in-law Edward (Christine) Peterson, sister-in-law Caryl (Peter) Lenz.
Don is survived by his wife Janice, four sons, Donald (Colleen), Daniel (Michelle), Gregory (Melanie) and Jeffrey (Wendy), Stepson Joseph (Jane) Bukovich, stepdaughter, Renee (Shannon) Bukovich, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, sister Linda (LeRoy) Scheiner, Sister-in-law Shirley (Charles) Caudle, Christine (Edward) Peterson, William (Roberta) Peterson, Christine (Joseph) Zattera, Douglas (Patricia) Peterson.
A memorial gathering for Don will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel in Woodruff, from 11 a.m. to noon with a memorial service at noon and a reception to follow the service.
Online condolences may be shared at www.nimsgernfuneral.com. Nimsgern Funeral & Cremation Services is serving the family.
