George is survived by his wife, Carol (Derry), and four children; Kari Righter (Parker, Colo.), Kirder Starr (Sarasota, Fla.), Steven Gukich (Ft. Collins, Colo.), and Jacob Gukich (Lac du Flambeau); and 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Stefanie Staniak (Milwaukee). He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Dorothy (Susnar), and his sister, Judith Gruichich.
George was born on Jan 22, 1942 in Milwaukee, where he attended school, graduating from Union Grove High School. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he was stationed in Hawaii and met his wife. Following his tour, he attended college at UWM and DePaul University Chicago. George was a creative entrepreneur, founding several business in the Chicago area, all data communications.
In early years, George became a private pilot and discovered the beauty of the Northwoods, purchasing a cabin in Lac du Flambeau in 1983.
He and Carol would fly up nearly every weekend, deciding they wanted to retire there. He enjoyed both fishing and hunting.
In retirement, he worked as a school bus driver for Lakeland Bus, always enjoying the children.
A memorial service was held in Palmetto, Fla., for family and friends. Another local service will be held in August.
