Dorothy graduated from Nicolet High School in 1940, and became a registered nurse (RN) upon graduating in 1942 from St. Mary’s School of Nursing. On Nov, 15, 1943, at Old Saint Joseph's Church in De Pere, she married Quentin F. Willems. Dorothy was the loving mother of their six children and families.
Dorothy was preceded in death by Quentin, her beloved husband of 70 years, their son Edward, and Jack Shomion. She is survived by daughter-in-law Patricia Willems-Shomion, daughters Beth (Peter) Lilly, Mary (Greg) Van Grinsven, Anne (William) Daley, Lynne (Daryl) Sobczak, and Gretchen (Jarett) Luther. She is further survived by 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Dorothy worked as an RN during WWII in Detroit, Chicago, and Green Bay, and as a volunteer nurse with the American Red Cross. She was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Church, De Pere and St. Anne Catholic Church, Boulder Junction. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, downhill skiing, golfing, fishing, viewing wildlife/nature, music, and traveling. She had a thoughtful and giving nature and would frequently visit friends and relatives to share a smile, sweet treat, and conversation. But most of all she treasured spending time with her beloved family.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. on Wed., June 29, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan Street, De Pere, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mike Ingold and Rev. Joseph Pasala concelebrating.
