With love and sadness, we announce the passing of Marion Barcus, 92, on July 22, 2022 at Rice Lake Nursing Home in Wisconsin. Marion was born on January 31, 1930 in his hometown of Urbana, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Goldie Barcus. Marion is survived by his loving wife, Michele Bruette and his beautiful stepchildren, Nicole Bruette, Amy Palkovitz (Michael Palkovitz), Michael Bruette (Jane Bay), and Lance Bruette (Melanie Alvardo); step-grandchildren, Tre Bruette, Michael Palkovitz Jr., Joshua Palkovitz, Noah Palkovitz, Cody Guild, Ahna Bruette, and Lance Bruette Jr.; as well as his step-great-grandchild, Azalea Bruette. Late in life, Marion was blessed by the joys and overwhelming love being surrounded by his Wisconsin family and friends. He is also survived by his Illinois family leaving behind his one sister, Virginia Silver; two daughters, Pamela Thomssen (Gary), and Vicki Keller (Ed); beautiful grandchildren, Eddie Glenn Keller (Jeanette), Chelsea Taylor (Bill); and great-grandchildren, Adeline Marie and Jackson Glenn Taylor.
Marion worked 36 years at Inland Supply Company in Champaign, Ill. as a wholesale plumbing rep. After he retired in the 60’s, he moved to Wisconsin and opened a restaurant in Hazelhurst, called Sammie’s (now known as The Watering Hole) with his late wife. Whenever anyone needed help, they knew to call Marion and he would be there. He was a beloved handyman by family, friends and the community. He enthusiastically enjoyed his later years working at Save More and lastly at Ace Hardware, working 40 hour weeks where he was able to interact with friendly coworkers and help so many people.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Friday, August 5, at Bolger Funeral Home – Woodruff, followed by a celebration of life at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Oneida or Vilas County Humane Society.
