Jim is survived by his loving wife Barbara (Vitcenda), his three children and their spouses, Jane (Scott Lagger), Ann (John Desens), and Peter (Missy Hesse). He is additionally survived by his older brother Robert Hesse (Carol) and his younger brother John Hesse (Kathy). In addition he is survived by his grandchildren, Sam Lagger, Emma Lagger, Ted Lagger, Cate Desens, Jack Desens, Joe Hesse and Tom Hesse.
Jim graduated from St. Catherine’s High School and Dominican College in Racine. He spent his working years as a co-owner of D.P. Wigley Ready Mix Concrete in Racine and later as a plant manager for Tews/LaFarge International in Milwaukee. Jim found satisfaction in his retirement job interacting with customers at Ace Hardware in Woodruff.
Jim loved to be active. He spent his free time fishing for musky, doing yard work and puttering on various home projects. Jim quietly set an example of service through volunteering at Lakeland Pantry, the Helping Hands Ministry at Holy Family Parish and regularly donating blood.
Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor, infectious smile and sharing the “connectors” that he made and gave away. Jim found joy in his grandchildren, baiting their hooks and sharing ice cream. Jim thought Heaven was a little closer at the lake.
The visitation will be held Friday, July 29 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Woodruff. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lakeland Pantry.
