On January 11, 2022 David Schild took the first flight out, his last. David was born in Great Lakes, Illinois on March 17, 1948. David grew up in Saint Francis and attended Saint Paul Catholic School, where he was an altar boy, and Saint Francis High School. David was drafted and served in the 82nd Airborne from 1968 to 1970. After returning, David attended the University of Milwaukee and received his bachelor's degree. After graduation he traveled on a merchant ship to England and bicycled throughout France, Italy and Germany where he stopped in Wiesbaden. He worked there as a civilian while taking classes at Ball State University that earned him a master’s degree in counseling. It was there that he met his true companion, Mireille. David left Germany in 1980 to pursue his passion, flying. After being a flight instructor and bush pilot, he was hired by Comair and then American Airlines which he retired from in 2008. David was preceded in death by his parents; sister; two brothers; and stepdaughter, Lynda. David is survived by his wife of 40 years; his grandson, Sage, whom he raised; stepdaughters, Nancy and Mimi and their children and grandchildren; his sister Judy Guzman (Jerry); brother Christopher; sister-in-law Allison; and many nieces and nephews.
