Patricia Moriarty Schoppe (Patty Packer) passed on the afternoon of August 12 in Minocqua, at the age of 71. Patty was born in 1950 and was preceded in death by her father John and mother MaryAnn Moriarty, brother Theodore Moriarty, brother-in-law Paul Jones, and sister-in-law Liz Moriarty. She is survived by her husband Dennis Shoppe, of St. Germain, eldest son Brian Andersen of N.C., and Mark Schoppe (Kylie), of Ohio: her siblings, Kathleen Jones, John Moriarty, Ellen Kasten (Larry), Peggy Crowley (Kevin), Carol Rowe (David) and Maura Grant (Jeff); as well as several nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews and cousins.
Patty graduated from Nicolet High School, Class of ‘69, in Glendale. She spent two years overseas in Germany as an Army wife. In 1978 Patty and her eldest son moved to the Sayner/St. Germain area where she helped in the family business of Lollycoogan Inn. This is where she met the love of her life Dennis, and they were married in 1983.
Patty was always active in the community through her work and volunteering her time. As an advocate for those in need, especially the children. Through her work at the Council on Education Standards and Accountability (CESA 9) she spoke and presented to government officials the concerns and educational needs on a state and national level. Patty was invited to speak at the National Governor’s Convention in San Francisco. Her passion for helping the children led her to Northland Pines School District, where she was a librarian, confidant, and mentor to many students for over 11 years in both the high school and middle school. She supported our military and her son’s enlistment by creating the “St. Germain Troop Support” for the local northern Wisconsin region. Bringing awareness by organizing and shipping boxes of necessities and letters of love and support for the U.S. troops during the Gulf War. Locally she organized a clothing closet for families in need. She campaigned to save The Red Brick School House and wrote grants for numerous students & school needs.
Patty lived a very purposeful life and had a creative, artistic and passionate spirit. Her generosity, humor and love will be greatly missed, by all that knew her.
The family will be having a celebration of life next year.
