Joyce (Totten) Brounacker, 92, of Minocqua died August 1, 2022.
She was born in Antigo, to Margaret (Abel) and Kenneth Totten. She grew up on a farm and played on the banks of the Plover River where she had many fond memories with her two sisters, Shirley, and Kay. She married Roy Brounacker on Oct. 23, 1948, and together they had a very full and active life having eight children.
Our mother was truly an incredible woman, a whirlwind full of abundant energy. Not only taking care of and chasing after her many children, she, made all our meals at home, canning, pickling, gathering berries or vegetables and she was always baking something including bread from scratch, and many sweet treats. Memories of Christmas include dozens of several varieties of Christmas cookies. She also took great pride in having an immaculate home, always washing, scrubbing, or cleaning something inside and outside. Roy and Joy enjoyed many road trips through the years, going south in the winter or visiting their children and grandchildren across America before Roy passed away in 2009.
Our mom enjoyed playing cards and games, she was also an avid reader and cherished her alone time and just being at home. Recently she had so much joy watching and feeding treats to her wild deer from her patio, and yes, Mom you are the “Deer Whisperer.” Mom, you are the epitome of honesty, generosity, and selflessness, always giving up your needs to give to all of us and we are so grateful. We only wish your heart was as strong as you are. Thank God for you, you were so loved in this life.
Joy is survived by eight children, Susan, Robert, Jane (Dan) Hron, Judy (Chuck) Johnson, Mary Crubaugh, Roger (Kris), Lori (Mark) Barden, Joann (Tom) Purdy, twelve grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two sisters.
It was her wish for cremation and a private family service.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hildebrand Funeral Home & Cremation Specialists, 24 E. Davenport Street, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 54501, 715-365-4343. Everyone is invited to sign the guestbook or leave an online condolence at www.hildebrandrussfh.com.
