Mark J. LaFever of Random Lake passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022 at the age of 80. He was born to Clarence “Cad” and Helen (Mehlos) LaFever on September 17, 1941. Mark married Sandra Liermann on December 28, 1963 and together they had four children.
Mark took over the LaFever Electric family business from his father in 1968. The business was located in Batavia and in the early 80s he moved the business to Random Lake and continued to operate the business right up until his passing.
He was an advocate for his community, serving on the Town of Scott Planning Commission and Sanitary District. He also served on the Batavia Fire Department for several years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips throughout the United States and Canada. Mark especially loved spending time at his cottage up north on Lake Katherine. He never met a person he couldn’t find a connection or commonality with. Mark often reminded his children “You gotta get out and meet the people”
Mark is survived by his children Tracy (Jeff) Hiller, Lynn LaFever, Kelly LaFever, Michael (Carla) LaFever; grandchildren Mauranda (Joe) Horstmeier, Rebecah Hiller, Jarrett Hiller, Cathryn Hiller, Jessica Helminger, Callie Helminger, Chloe LaFever, Trenton LaFever, Ian LaFever, and Hannah LaFever; great-grandchildren Mia Hiller, Atticus Horstmeier, and Gideon Horstmeier.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sandy 1940-2008, brothers Jay, Neal, Miles, and Dennis.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 2, at St. John United Church of Christ, 98 Random Lake Rd. Random Lake, WI 53075 with Pastor Bridget Hill presiding. The family will receive visitors at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Mark will be laid to rest next to his wife at Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Batavia.
In lieu of flowers memorials are encouraged to St. John United Church of Christ in Random Lake or the charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his care team at Sharon S. Richardson Home Hospice and everyone that came to visit and spend time with Mark especially Bud, Butch, Dale, Henry, Jerry, and Bob.
The Eernisse Funeral Home of Port Washington is assisting the family with arrangements; online condolences may be left at www.eernissefuneralhome.com.
