Dorothy “Dottie” Neumueller Broeren
Dottie married James “Jim” Broeren, also from Medford, in 1953 in Landstuhl, Germany while Jim was serving in the Air Force at Ramstein Air Force Base, with a honeymoon in Paris. They lived in Wausau briefly after his discharge from service, then moved to Minocqua in 1957, where they raised their four daughters.
“Nurse Dottie” worked as a nurse for Dr. Hiatt and at Lakeland Medical Associates, retiring as Drs. Jim and Lorraine Houlihan’s nurse.
Always a talented seamstress, she sewed for her girls and herself, also doing alterations. Dottie always dressed stylishly, along with a great pair of shoes! She loved tending her flower beds at their home on Brunswick Road, where they built the home they would live in from 1959 – 2017. Countless picnics and family celebrations were held there, always with Dottie’s delicious meals served.
Dottie and Jim loved to travel, visiting Alaska, Hawaii, Branson, Mo. and much of the U.S., Montreal, Canada, the U.K. and back to Germany, as well as a month in Florida every winter for many years.
She was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on numerous committees. Dottie was also active in local organizations such as the Jaycettes, PTA, Republican Women’s Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary at Lakeland Hospital and Howard Young Medical Center. Dottie and Jim danced alongside Elizabeth Taylor and husband John Warner at the dedication gala for HYMC.
She is reunited with her parents, six brothers and two sisters, dear husband Jim and beloved daughter Lynne Beverung.
Dottie is dearly missed by daughters, Barbara (Chuck) Schneider, Jeanne Gauthier, Leslee (Jeff) Skebba and son-in-law Bob Beverung. She was loving Nana to her grandchildren: Molly (Nic) Herdrich, Jennifer (Erik) Fossum, Joe (Hailey) Schneider, Kristin Schneider, Nick Gauthier, Kate Gauthier, Jay Skebba and Laura Skebba; and great-grandchildren: Noah and Sloan Herdrich, Rosie, Ellie and Brynne Fossum, and Brooklyn Schneider.
