Mary S. Smith

Mary S. Smith, 88, of Tomahawk, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 3, at her residence with her family by her side. Mary was born on December 17, 1932, in Dover, Tenn., to the late Charles and Beuna (Stavley) Shemwell.
Mary founded Tomahawk Live Trap with her husband Gregory J. Smith on June 1, 1968. Together they built a family business that sold humane animal control traps throughout the world. Mary had a dynamic personality and a flair for fashion. She was always impeccably dressed. She enjoyed attending trade shows where she had developed a legion of friends and customers. It seemed that everyone wanted to stop by the Tomahawk Live Trap booth for a visit with Mary. She will be missed by everyone who knew her and loved her.
Survivors include a son, Gregory (Jenny) Smith, of Hazelhurst; a daughter, Charlotte (Harry) Kitchen, of Hilton Head, S.C.; a daughter, Melissa (Larry) Ouimette, of Minocqua; and a son, Charles Smith, of Tomahawk. Mary is further survived by eight grandchildren, Ashley Kitchen, Natalie Kitchen, Michael Ouimette, Julianna Ouimette, Kristina Ouimette, Charles Smith, Jr., Paul Smith, and Kyle Smith, in addition to four great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Gregory J. Smith, whom she married on November 24, 1957; two sisters; and six brothers.
Private funeral services for Mary Smith will be held. Burial will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery in the Town of Bradley. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family. View Mary’s obituary and leave online condolences at generationsfuneral.com.
