Jonathon David Harms
A son, husband, father, brother and friend. He would help anyone that asked and sometimes they didn’t even know it. A protector and provider, always putting the needs of his family and friends before his own. Willing to do whatever it took to keep them safe. Fearing very little, he would take life head on. Always the child at heart, it seemed that he never stopped smiling. Trying to make the best of any bad situation was as easy as putting on his shoes (he tried to make it look that easy, that is). I don’t think he ever did something a little bit; it was all or nothing and that’s how he lived life. Always hard working and even harder at playing. His goal was to be free.
Jon Harms started his military career in 2000 in Minocqua as a crane operator with a Combat Engineer Company with the Reserves. In 2002 Jon started his military career on active duty in Fort Polk La. While stationed in Fort Polk, he was deployed twice, in 2003 and 2005, to Iraq. He had duty assignments in Germany and Fort Bragg, while he finished his military career back at Fort Polk in 2009. In 2004, while at Fort Polk, Jon took a Sapper Leader Course where he was awarded the Sapper Tab. In 2007 while stationed in Germany, he went to Fort Bragg and went through Air Borne School. That is where he earned his Parachutist Badge. In 2008, while stationed at Fort Bragg, Jon went through the Survival Escape Resist Evade Course (SERE School).
Jonathon is survived by his wife of 17 years, Tracy Lynn Harms of Longville; five children, Hannah, Sarah, Emma, Wyatt, and Justin; father Kenneth Harms and Donna of Eagle River; mother Dorothy Olsen Harms of Sun City, Ariz.; two siblings, Jacy Elrod & Shane of Spring, Texas, and Tony Harms of Queen Creek, Ariz.; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
