A retired Chicago police officer, Vietnam veteran, and loving father he strongly believed in kneeling for the cross and standing for the flag.
Gary is survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughter, April (Kevin); son, Frank (Kari); son, Edward (Anna); grandson and best fishing buddy, Tommy (Sabrina) and the brightest light in his life, his granddaughter, Maura. While illness kept Gary from meeting his great granddaughter Isabel, he followed her through many photographs. He is further survived by his loving sister, Karen Makowski.
The family would like to thank Gary’s doctors and the angels on 8 North, Marshfield Hospital, Marshfield, the doctors, nurses and lab techs from Marshfield Hospital, Minocqua and the hospice helpers.
A memorial service is being planned for spring.
