Henry L. Bauers, age 74 of Manitowish Waters, died on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021 at Seasons of Life Hospice in Woodruff. Henry was born Oct. 6, 1946 in West Prestonsburg, Kent., to Louis and Agnes (Harris) Bauers.  He grew up in Prestonsburg, Kent., and Northern Wisconsin, graduating in 1964 from Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua. Henry graduated in 1966 from Professional Business Institute in Minneapolis with a degree in laboratory technology. After graduation, Henry worked briefly in Kentucky before moving to Canton, Ill., to work in the lab at Graham Hospital. Henry continued his lab work at Caterpillar, Inc., where he worked for 30 years. Henry retired in 1997 from Caterpillar, Inc. serving in various roles, last working in the Mossville, Ill., Hose Plant. After retiring, Henry moved to the Northwoods of Wisconsin — Manitowish Waters, where he opened Quality Caretaking providing services for many clients who became good friends. Henry enjoyed all the pleasures of being close to family and the great outdoors.
Henry married Lois Pronath in 1996. She survives along with his children, Jodi Bauers or Iowa City, Iowa; Louis “BJ” Bauers of Manitowish Waters; and Heidi Bauers of Peoria, Ill., devoted brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Judy Bauers of Arbor Vitae, stepchildren Heidi (Adam) Jahnke of Trevor, Wisc.; and Will (Tiffany) Pronath of Menomonee Falls, grandchildren, who adored their “Papa,” Hanna Bauers, Aidan Bauers and Mason, Myles, Wilson and Lydia Pronath, nieces, Jane (John) Dern of Minocqua, and Becki (Corey) Thompson of DeForest, best friend since high school, Bill Link of Chesterton, Ind. along with many friends and extended family. Henry was preceded in death by his parents and numerous family members.
Henry was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights, Ill., and later Manitowish Waters Community Presbyterian Church. Henry was always active in the lives of his children and the community from coaching soccer and little league teams to being an active member of the Manitowish Waters Lions Club where he served several terms as president. Henry served 14 years as town supervisor for Manitowish Waters and as president for Manitowish Waters Bike, Inc. Henry was proud of his role with the Manitowish Waters Bike Trail and the Manitowish Waters Community Playground, but most of all Henry was happiest spending time with family and friends. Henry enjoyed hunting, fishing and all wildlife. Henry had lots of Papa wisdom, “Don’t get gas when the fuel truck is there filling the tanks, bumper stickers lower trade in value and if someone wants to give you something and you can’t fit it one hand, put out both hands.” Henry had a great sense of humor, positive attitude and kind heart. He made this world a better place. Do something for someone else in his honor. A celebration of Henry’s life will be planned for later this summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Manitowish Waters Fire Company P.O. Box 367 Manitowish Waters, WI 54545.
