Shirley was born on March 24, 1939 in Woodstock, Ill., the daughter of Fred and Alice (nee Brown) McCannon. She graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1957. Having gotten engaged at her senior prom, Shirley married the love of her life, Richard W. Becker, on July 27, 1957. They were married for 59 years.
Shirley and Richard lived in McHenry and Woodstock, Ill. for several years where Shirley worked for Berlin Press and Sun Electric/Snap-On Tools. In 1994 they made the move to Arbor Vitae where they owned and operated Kitchen Bath Mart and The Lakewood Companies with their children until they retired.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed dining at the local casino with friends and relatives and even enjoyed playing the slots from time to time.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Alice McCannon; husband, Richard Becker; son, Danny Becker; brother, Don McCannon; and brothers-in-law, Larry Becker and Robert Becker.
Shirley is survived by son Brian (Kristy) Becker; daughters Lori (Greg) Melland, and Susan (Mike) Worthing; sister, Nancy (Earl) Heverly; sister-in-law Janet McCannon; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Barbara and Robert Bittermann, Ronald and Micki Becker, and Judy Becker; grandchildren, Ashley (Fred) Niemuth, Amanda Becker, Andy Kanter, Sarah (Brett) Gibson, Alexis (Clint) Kimps, Michael Worthing and Mitchell Worthing; Great grandchildren Shylah Luppo, Gage Lowell , Harper Kanter, Quinn Kanter, Lauren Gibson, Emma Gibson and Covie Kimps; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
For those wishing to pay their respects, a visitation will be held on Saturday, June 26, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Nimsgern Funeral Home Chapel, Woodruff. A joint burial with her husband, Richard, will take place on June 28 at 10 a.m. at Woodland Cemetery, McHenry, Ill.
