Susan was born in Geneva, Ill., on Nov. 28, 1942, to George and Margaret (Andersen) Pfleeger.
She grew up in Batavia, Ill., with her parents and beloved brother Jim, spending summer days at the family cottage and waterskiing on Lake Geneva. School days found her playing clarinet in the marching band for Batavia High, volunteering at the local hospital and making lifelong friends.
Upon graduation, she attended Hope College and graduated with a BS in Nursing from Swedish Covenant Hospital, Chicago, Ill., in 1965. While at Hope, Susan met her future husband, Ervin Bolks. They married in September 1965, raised two daughters in Tarzana, Cal., and were blessed with 56 years together.
Sue loved to laugh, spend time in Bible reading and prayer, take care of her family, play tennis, knit, nurture treasured friendships, disciple women, and create beautiful quilts, many as special gifts for others. Her enormous caring heart, genuine interest in the lives of friends, family, beloved grandchildren, and strangers along her path, were examples to emulate.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and husband Erv who passed away Nov. 6, 2021, only weeks before her.
She is survived by her brother Jim (Donna) Pfleeger, daughters Heather Evenhouse (Charlie) and Cathy Muir (Bill), beloved grandchildren who called her Oma: Zach & Kadee, Connor, Justin, Henry, Abe, Ava, Jim, Rachael and Sara.
A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, Dec. 28, 11:30 a.m., at Faith Evangelical Free Church, Woodruff, with lunch following.
A service honoring both Ervin and Susan will take place in the spring of 2022 in Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Stand to Reason, 1438 E. 33rd Street, Signal Hill, CA 90755 or Bible Study Fellowship, Global Headquarters, 19001 Huebner Road, San Antonio, TX USA 78258-4019.
